Life without fire is unimaginable. Long ago our ancestors used fire to cook raw meat, to keep themselves warm during the harsh winters and as a tool to frighten away wild animals. Life has evolved since then and so has the importance of fire to mankind. Fire is now considered precious and sacred. People pray to the fire god during holy rituals of several religions and the sun is believed to be “god of fire”.
There are innumerable cookers available in the market today. We have the gas cooker, the electric cooker, the steam cooker and the solar cooker. There are so many varieties that you could get confused. But of so many choices: The gas and the electric cooker are the most dominant across the world. It is observed that electric cookers and gas cookers are very well-liked and they control nearly 90% of the market share.
The first electric cooker was introduced in the 1980′s. In the beginning the electric ovens had no hot plates and consisted of ancillary appliances like the kettle, frying pan and griller which were all then plugged into a main board through wires. Maintenance was hard and people were worried to use it.
The modern electric cooker is very simple to operate. The oven is the main part of the electric cooker and this oven consists mostly of four to six coils that are electrically-heated. Knob-like buttons are used to turn the cooker off and on. Electric cookers are preferable for nearly every household as they are safer and they run on electricity. The only bill you get is the cost of the electricity used to run the cooker. The professional electric cooker has gone through a lot of technological modifications and the latest version comes with a variety of options to choose from.
The gas is administered by a gas company in much the same way that electricity is administered by the electric company. The home owner then receives a bill every month because gas is considered a utility. Gas is very safe and the flame can be lit either with a match stick or a lighter.
The disadvantage with gas is that it is considered as a utility and we have to pay separately for the gas. Previously gas had no odor and if a there was a gas leak, it was not known. This sometimes caused loss of life and property. But the latest addition is that the gas in the cylinders is scented with a typical scent which can be detected in the case of leakage.
The major drawback of electric cookers is that when the coil is too hot, the cooker cannot be touched. It is perilous if small children accidentally touch the appliance. The electric cooker is much simple to operate than the gas cooker. There can be several problems with gas cookers like leakage, a difficulty in cleaning the hobs and several other problems which can crop up.
Electric cookers are available in all electronic shops and even departmental stores. But, you will not need to visit any of those places, as generally you’ll get attached electronic cookers in the house you are moving into.
